ECLIPSE PROVIDES ILLUMINATION

Are you ready for big changes in your life? The astrology this month offers great opportunities for self-reflection pointing to new areas of growth.

Foremost is the solar eclipse of May 21-22. It will be visible across parts of North America, the Pacific and East Asia. While it’s not visible everywhere on earth, the energetic effects of eclipses are felt everywhere on the planet.

Generally, eclipses energetically provide us with an inner insight that is normally lacking. An analogy can be seen as with film cameras — if people remember anymore. The film’s negative from which photos are printed is opposite to the colors or shades normally seen. So it is with an eclipse; for a period, things are reversed: day becomes night, then night becomes day — all in the course of a few hours.

When the eclipse shadow is in full form, roosters begin to crow, birds go silent, predators that normally come out only at night begin to stir. It can be an eerie event. Even mechanical objects are fooled, as sensors switch on streetlights and security lights. Drivers turn on headlights in order to see where they are going.

But, then, it becomes light again. The earth appears first in an eerie glow, like twilight, then as if from a dream, the landscape and all its objects appear again, slowly emerging in a new light. Everything appears the same, but different. It’s as if the world has been washed, scrubbed clean, and made new so that it’s seen anew.

Hidden Facets Revealed

Energetically, it’s the same. If we look for them, eclipses reveal hidden facets of ourselves — perhaps joys or sorrows that have been buried within, or talents that for whatever reason have been slumbering or pushed down in our psyches. We can have new appreciations or new understandings. Previous facts that may have been hidden may suddenly be revealed to us. Or we may find that we have additional information that may be applied to an old problem so that new solutions emerge.

This eclipse is also what’s called an “annular” eclipse, meaning that when seen at full darkness, the Moon and Sun will be aligned so that the Moon doesn’t totally cover the Sun, but will appear with a ring around it, called the “ring of fire.” This can be quite spectacular, appearing like the Eye of God looking down. It also may have the appearance of an engagement ring, with a giant sparkle at some point in the ring. Either way, it’s a powerful portent and can have many meanings, each unique for the viewer.

Healing to Occur

So, be prepared for changes. Allow what’s slumbering within to be awakened. Allow insights to occur. Remember, too, as with any spiritual cleansing or attunement, if hurtful things come up: acknowledge them and let them go. Allow healing to occur. Don’t dwell on negative things, and don’t stuff them back down. Allow yourself to shed what you don’t need, so you will be open to embrace the new!
