Thoughts on the video game Grand Theft Auto
Many of my peers along with me have grown up through our teen years with the hit game series Grand Theft Auto. Though the game does revolve around a gangsters view of life; the game is much more deeper than that and atune to the current transitions this world is facing today. It has been years since I enjoyed playing video games really no game other than Madden and the occasionaly spree of GTA. With the upcoming release of Grand Theft Auto IV, I though it would be necessary to show the similarities of that game and life for many people in general.
The pedestrians in the game come in many shapes, sizes, and clothing wear. In GTA the people on the street overlap many times over. Meaning you'll see the same pedestrian character over and over. I challenge you to just sit down in the city and watch people hurry around. You'll begin to think to yourself- "I just saw that guy/girl". Of course you did! They are all gridlocked. Their thoughts, their choices in clothing, pretty much everything.
Another theme in the game is how you can play video games inside the video game. Hidden message, anyone?
You can gamble in the video game.
You can eat and buy sodas.
You can workout in the game.
You can take photos in the game where you'll have it in your photobook.
You can do limitless activities in the game that reflect the modern Matrix many people live in and who believe these are staples in modern life.
The most astounding mark in the game to me, that I never noticed playing is until recently where I played the game with my little cousin, is SYNCHRONIZATIONS! They are everywhere in the game. Billboards, street markings, when you reset your life after you die or get aressted often times it will be at 11:01 or 11:11 and other sychronizations of numbers as the game goes on. I remember my first view of sychronizations was 11:11 then it went on to other numbers. It's funny how it is reflected exactly in the game the same way.
In lasting words this game is far beyond shooting people and gang activities. Hell if you wanted to you could be a cab driver, ambulance driver, policeman, fireman, and many other occupations that allow you to see through the eyes of many in the Matrix they live in. These developers are well aware of what is happening now. I find no pleasure in distracting "entertainment", no longer, but everywhere I look people seem to be discussing the new release of the game. So I wanted to give me two cents of what the game is truly about and the hidden message that is right under your nose. Life is just a game!
