Is the World as we know it comming to an end?

This week I have been very stressed about the earth's condition, even more than usual. I was especially concerned because I have two wonderful children and I want to believe they will inherit a decent world The economy, the global food crises and the inaction of our world leaders in driving me mad. I found a website that made me rather depressed. This person thinks our society is going to collapse within 40 years and many people are going to starve to death or die either by starvation, homicide or suicide. I agree that capitalism can be a horrible thing. I am making a conscious effort not to be a mindless consumer. I find the best things in life are free, that money is a means to an end, to help us survive I know that things may get bad but I hope that most of us will survive. I care for the earth, and I am doing my part by recycling and conservation I encourage my family members to do the same thing. I even wrote my governor and the presidential candidate Barack Obama about some of my ideas about recycling in the US. I was told by a close friend of mine who is a psychic, that the world is not going to end and that me and my family (I have two kids) will be alright because I am of the Light. I felt much better.
If anything the website I visited mad me more conscious of my actions so now I am even more dilegent about conservation, recycling, advocacy and so on, so it did serve a purpose.

If there are big changes coming, what are they going to be? Who will survive? Will it be the Dawn of a new Civilization? What does this mean for people like us? 2012?
