8/8/08 The Supposed Magic of Equal Numbers

I guess I feel that it is only special in the minds of some because of the numbers. I understand 8 can be seen as a symbol for eternity and therefore very important. But other days like 7/7/07, 6/6/06, 5/5/05 and I'm sure 9/9/09 are all considered important. Some of you are even going so far to say that 8:00 or even 8:08 will be a time to receive energy from a gateway that will open.
I guess my problem with this is that the way we measure our time and days and months and years was all designed by homo sapiens. As far as I've learned, no spirits or angels came down to any of the groups of mostly religious or govermental men who determined our calendars and clocks and told us what to name and number things. The Jews and the Chinese and other cultures that use different calendars aren't saying anything about a powerful day on the "Christian" calendar of 8/8/08, even if they are open-minded thinkers like the people here. And do 'we' celebrate many powerful days that ahve a repeating number on other cultures calendars? If we do, I haven't heard about it.
I've got a feeling that if the Mayans hadn't predicted 12/21/12, then people would be looking towards 12/12/12 as the most important day of the month just because of the repeating number, you know what I mean? Could it be that 7/26/1995 was a very powerful day and everyone missed it because a) it didn't have repeating numbers or b) because the energy of the universe could give a crap about what numbers we humans use?
Sorry, I'm just looking for answers. I'm hoping somebody will fill me in. Like I have in the Zen quote on my page: No doubt, no awakening.

I feel the same you do. Full moon and new moon are meaningfull moments for me, just like equinoxes and solstices. But equal numbers never have felt special to me. Like you say: other cultures have other calendars and other numbers. How could our very articial clumsy western christian julian calendar indicate cosmic moments of hightened energy and opening portals? If any calendar could, I would prefer to look at p.e. a Mayan 13-moon calendar to look for equal numbers. Assuming equal numbers have any special meaning, which I doubt very much. Why should equal numbers be more special than different numbers: because they are rather rare? So what?
But apart from the reasoning I have the same feeling about these days and moments: i.e. no special feeling at all.
I think such moment can gain momentum and become energy portals not because of the calendar numbers, but only because of the number of brothers and sisters who "believe in it" and join their meditational focus. Looking upon it from that angle there is nothing wrong with the equal number thing, be it fact or fantasy! Because every time we join in meditation focussing on the Light of Love we do good work, promoting the Highest Cause for All.
So far my thoughts and feelings. Maybe some others are willing to comment too?
