WHAT'S ON THE INSIDE?
To me it doesn't matter how on the outside you appear.
Whether you are tall or short or have a polished veneer.
To me it's what's on the inside that tells me who you are…
A warm and welcoming inside makes for a better friend by far.
It doesn't matter what color your skin or what religion you profess.
It doesn't matter what is in your past or 'who' you are, much less
If you are very wealthy, or whether you are poor…
It is only what's on the inside that I am looking for.
Is there a light that shines within you? A beacon burning bright?
Can you shed a tear for me, my friend, and tell me it'll be all right?
Are you able to sit quietly and listen to my tale?
And will you be there to support me when eventually I fail?
If only we could see with eyes unbridled by conceit,
If only we could reach inside of each person we may meet,
If only we could touch the heart of all who pass our way,
We'd know that what's within us is more precious than we can say.
Take a long look within yourself; access what you find there.
Throw out the trash, enlist the broom, and find new clothes to wear.
Because it's really what's on the inside that tells me who you are,
A warm and welcoming inside makes you a better friend by far.
