New Moon in Gemini
May 24, 2009 @ 8:11am EDT

Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one. - Albert Einsteingemini Pictures, Images and Photos

The New Moon at 4 degrees of Gemini occurs on May 24, 2009 at 8:11am EDT. In traditional (non-Shamanic) astrology Gemini themes include: communication, ideas, networking, teaching, writing, education; being articulate, fluent, versatile, curious, flirtatious, twins, having a 'split personality', intelligent, adaptable, scattered, superficial, flexible. In this sense, Gemini is the multi-tasking social butterfly who knows something about every subject and retains all of the details. Someone who is smart as a whip and a wonderful conversationalist.

However, this potentially heady and light-and-airy Gemini New Moon has power injected into it this year. Bob Mulligan writes: "This will be one of the most important and incredible lunar months in this decade." Gemini is going wide and long.

The Shamanic Astrology interpretation of Gemini helps us to understand the true energy packet of this New Moon. In Shamanic Astrology Gemini is the Trickster, the Jester, the Fool. Gemini wears the world like a loose jacket. Gemini gets the Cosmic Joke and finds life hysterical because he knows it's all an illusion. She then spends her life tricking others into enlightenment. This is a very important function in this world. Not everyone within humanity will be able (or willing) to find the discipline to meditate, do yoga and commit themselves to selfless service (which is the Piscean path to enlightenment). Instead they will have to be tricked into it.

A New Moon is a time for seed-intention. Seed your intentions for your own unfolding enlightenment and evolution. Are you satisfied with your spiritual path? What is your fastest path to enlightenment? (P.S. a Shamanic Astrology Reading includes a discussion of this). Include in your intentions how the mind/ego/little self can be a HELP on the spiritual path. There is such a thing as positive use of mind and a healthy ego. Gemini's quick thinking and admirable intelligence are examples. Thinking can be an important guiding light on the path. Humanity wouldn't be at the level of consciousness it is at today if we couldn't read, write, discuss and be mentally curious.

This chart has a Yod in it, just as the Full Moon did earlier this month. Both have Power Pluto at the stem. (For a brief discussion on the Yod, you can check out my last newsletter here: http://tinyurl.com/qbjfg9) This Yod includes the New Moon and Sun (both at 4 Gemini) and involves the past. A solution point for this Yod is the asteroid HYGEIA, the goddess of hygeine and health. I can't help but think about the (swine) flu epidemic we have been hearing about in the news, not to mention the issue of universal health care which will be a hot topic in June, not to mention all the talk of 'healing of wounds' in reference to Chiron's influence this month (see below for more on that). Health, healing and hygeine are all up for review.

From wiki: Hygeia (also Hygea, Hygia, Hygieia) was the Greek goddess of health. She was worshiped in connection with Aesculapius, the father of modern medicine according to myth. His symbol was the Caduceus, a snake entwined around a staff - the same symbol used by the American Medical Association and by physicians today. Hygeia was often symbolized with a snake drinking from a cup in her hand and - as with her father - the snake was often related to healing. Asclepius represents the healing aspect of the medical arts, while his daughters Hygieia, Meditrina, Iaso, Aceso, Aglæa/Ægle and Panacea (literally, "all-healing") symbolize the forces of cleanliness, medicine, and healing, respectively.

In addition, Father Saturn (in the earthy sign of Virgo) Lord of All Things Temporal, of Structure, Healthy Hierarchy and making sure the trains run on time - sits at the very bottom of the chart. This is a good thing, indicating grounding, structure, form, and the building of sustainable containers to hold celestial and other resources. This supports us in profound ways. We have two legs to stand on. Below I mention that we have a celestial wind at our back. We also have roots in the earth. Definitely can't hurt:)
