Growing up, I used to spend summers with my cousin who lived in an old, turn-of-the-century house, and I always had this creeped out feeling when I was there. My aunt swears that the house is haunted and has told many stories of strange occurances there.

She claimed that on at least three occasions a figure appeared to her. All three situations were the same...she was lying in bed and felt a presense near her. When she opened her eyes she could see the form of a man standing at the foot of her bed. He was dressed in some sort of military outfit, and he just stood there looking at her. He didn't speak but just gazed at her. She said she wasn't frightened, but instead fascinated, and kept running through all the logical scenarios in her head. She would blink hard to see if the figure would waver; it didn't. She would move her hand across the bed to see if her husband was still there; he was and she could feel the warmth from his body. The experience was so vivid that she insists that she was indeed awake, and not dreaming. After a few moments, the form just disappeared.

My aunt would always tell these stories with vigor, and we wondered if these stories were for real, or if she just liked capturing the attention of ready listeners.

Years later, when my uncle was renovating the basement, confederate money fell out of a hidden place in the wall. My aunt had described the spirit that she saw dressed in a uniform...perhaps he was a soldier from the civil war? This seemed to add validity to her many claims over the years.
