In previous times female energies was regarded as negative and material, and male energy was regarded as "spiritual". In New Age philosophy the opposite is often stated.
In real there is material aspect of male energy, and spiritual aspect of male energy. The same refers to female energy. These opposites can be shown in simple drawing:
The Spiritual male aspect is aspect of recognizing illusion of this world, and seeing beyond it. It is the connection with source. Its counterpart is material female - aspect of enjoying material world, sensual pleasures, taking care of your body, family, home.
Spiritual female is embodied compassion, mercy, self-sacrifice. Material male is power and agression.
All these opposites bring balance to each other. But in our world they are strongly polarised, rejecting each other. Observe, how do these polarities manifest in your life? In yourself, your spouse, your friends.
This is, in fact, the Mandala. The centre is the quintessence, the philosopher's stone, the Christ consciousness. The centre is the Source that divided itself few times, and now all divided components are drawn back.

The left side is MOther side, connected representing past and element water. The Right side is father side, future, fire. The horizontal line represents the time. Vertical line represents the vibrational scale.
You see, all these opposite points are polarised in you and in outer world. The opposite element is always destructive for you. When you are too polarised in 'Mother" side ( spiritual or material female), the opposite element - Fire is destructive for you. You will often ahve dreams , when fire causes destructions. The same refers to opposite.
That's why in the Mandala the most powerful point is the centre, and it is recommended to meditate on it. It will help to balance the opposites in you and your life.
