JOHN 8 –THE APPEARANCE
On the evening after Jesus’ Resurrection,
some of His disciples are in a home whose
doors are locked, and Jesus appears before them.
In a room with a doubly bolted door, four people
kneel in wonder and joy.
Jesus, surrounded by
a transparent nimbus, stands in their midst,
with arms raised in benediction.
I AM THE RESURRECTION AND THE LIFE, 11:25
One reason why St.
John’s’ Gospel was called by early Christians
the “Spiritual Gospel” is that he recounted throughout Jesus’
ministry such beautiful sayings.
The whole of Jesus’ career is
seen in terms of the Resurrection perspective.
The Resurrection is
designated as the sign not only of new life for the faithful but also
of the new historic era of the Messiah.
Christian tradition
understood Christ’s coming and Resurrection as the culmination
of human history, so that all events would henceforth be evaluated
in terms of both His earthly life and His eternal transcendance.
The
appearance of the Risen One therefore calls for an expansion of
man’s point of view. Christ represents a turning point.
Mankind is
offered a new dimension by which to measure events.
All ethical
and moral systems are now to be judged in terms of the
revelation in human time of God’s eternal will.
Signifies restoration.
After everything seems to be finished it is
time to begin again. Re-evaluation. Culmination. Restoration.
Rejuvenation. Appearance.
Just Love
