Society is opening its mind...

I'm a newbie here, but I've been blogging for a little almost two months on another site of mine, called The Heck Do I Know?

I hope you don't mind me taking up too much blog space, but I wanted to copy over some postings of mine from that site that I thought had relevance over here, too.  Starting with this one:

A recent survey indicated "nearly half of American adults [are] leaving the faith tradition of their upbringing to either switch allegiances or abandon religious affiliation altogether".

I believe this to be great news. People are finding dissatisfaction in staying with what they grew up with for no other reason than "that's what I was raised as" or "that's what everyone else does". Holding onto a belief only because you were raised to believe it does no one any good. In order to truly "find yourself" you must examine all aspects of your being, including (and especially) those things that you thought were "always true".

And if you find comfort with what you did believe originally, at least you have taken a step away from yourself for a time to determine what truly resonates with you.
