Spice up your Profile!

Greetings all. I spent the night reworking the User Profiles. You will see quite a few more options, and for those of you who have used myspace, it will look a little familiar to you. Please be sure to edit your profile and add in the fields. Have a play around with it and see how you go. If you have any questions please dont hesitate to ask!

Lightworkers is about community, its a place for you to share your thoughts and ideas, its a place to get creative!

So Lets Get Creative!

Each of us has our own webspace in Lightworkers.org mine is located at http://lightworkers.org/user/1297 If you want to see how you can use this new setup visit my profile.

Tip : When doing editing, its always good to work in a Text Editor on your PC and cut and paste from their into the fields. Incase your weblink screws up you dont loose your work and can re post it..

To start editing your profile Click MY ACCOUNT then EDIT then PROFILE

NOTE: If you cant see the EDIT button this may be caused by your browser. Lightworkers.org is tested with Mozilla and Internet Explorer v7. If you dont have the latest browser version I suggest you upgrade. I recommend Mozilla. http://www.mozilla.com

Things I recommend you do first..

1. Add in all the fields.. starting with your personal motto. This will apear next to your picture when people view your profile. Save all the fields.

2. In the MY ACCOUNT - EDIT - ACCOUNT DETAILS tab Upload an Avatar, or image. This can be a picture of you, or an icon, graphic.

Tip : Right Click the mouse on the DOWNLOADS menu option above (RIGHT CLICK) Then select OPEN IN NEW WINDOW

3. Pick a TUNE from the DOWNLOADs section. Find one you like, dont download it, just copy the file path and name. (Use the right mouse button, click the file, and select propertie. This will show you the file path) This is the music you can have playing on your profile. You can use this tune, or any Mp3 file hosted online. You need to know the full path..

Tip : To copy the highlight the text with the mouse and Hold down CTRL and press C at same time. To paste the highlighted text into your profile page hold CTRL and press V

4. Now switch windows back to your profile page.. Down the bottom add in the Path of the MP3 file to the filed that says, URL of MP3 to play on your prolfile. I also suggest you put in the credits of who wrote the song. in the Music Credits box.

5. Finaly, select how many blog titles you want to appear on your page. These are the blogs you write so your viewers can see your latest writings. (Recommend setting this 10.). If you leave it at 0, No blogs will show.

6. Ok.. take a look at your profile now..

7. WHAT? You want pretty pictures.. Ok!! Mee too!!

8. LETS ADD PICTURES ...

NOTE : Pictures can only be added if they are already online somewhere. So if you dont have a host or a file storage site you can use other peoples, from anywhere on the web, eg. Myspace, photobucket, or even in the Pictures area. Use the RIGHT CLICK Mouse button and Properties to get the path of the image. You can also use Lightworkers.org pictures area to upload your own images and artwork and then Link to those images form your profile.

Tip : RIGHT CLICK MOUSE BUTTON IS YOUR BEST FRIEND

In this exmaple, go into PICTURES form the menu above, and select a nice picture. Using the right mouse button, CLick the image and select properties. Copy the Image Path. Eg. NEW HOPE by Valeriejoan Path is http://lightworkers.org/files/images/NEW%20HOPE%202006_0.jpg

Go back into your Profile Editor.. MY ACCOUNT -> EDIT -> PROFILE

NOTE: To upload private images for use on your profile, you can use the IMCE File browser. (MY ACCOUNT -> IMCE Files)

If your a HTML Pro, dont use the Rich Text Editor. Just work with straight HTML. If you know HTML you shouldnt be needing this guide.. If you just want something simple, use the RICH TEXT EDITOR. Under the Profile box you will see the link enable rich-text.

Type some info about yourself.. Go into as much detail as you like.. Post favorite quotes, sayings whatever you feel like.. If you need more viewing space in the rich text editor click and drag the three little lines in the corner of the text window.

Now to add your pictures Click the Little TREE (images) in your rich text editor, this will bring up a box and ask for the URL of the Image to add. Put in the URL, and other data if you want. All thats needed is the URL.

And there it is..

So whenever you see a nice picture that you think would go well on your Profile Page, just RIGHT CLICK, grabs its Path and put it in!

9. ADDING LINKs

Ok perhaps you wouldlike to add some links, from your page. This is easy. Anywhere in your Profile Editor. (Using RITCH TEXT EDITOR) Just highlight some text (hold mouse button down and drag pointer over the text you want to be the link.) The Click the RIGHT mouse button over your highlighted text and select INSERT/EDIT link. A Box will come up where you can enter the URL of the webpage the link will take the user to. URL link should appear in the format..

eg. http://lightworkers.org/user/1297

TIP : For Links that Take a user to another webiste, select the option OPEN IN A NEW WINDOW. When a user clicks this link, a new browser window will open, and leave your page open in the background.

10. Lets add some FRIENDS!!

Right Click on the HOME link above in the menu, and select Open in New Window.. Now browse through some of the Blog Categories, or channels or whatever you are intereste din.. I recommend adding people who are adding content to the website. As they are the most active. You can also add your friends that you know on the site. Click through the links and visit other peoples profile.by clicking on their name or picture/avatar. Once on their profile page you can select the option Add to your buddylist
