My Dear MySpace (Music) Friends:

Today is about Inspiration. Inspiration can come from so many different places, however, I believe, the most powerful one comes from deep within ourselves. The trigger may be external, yet the fire in internal. People, places, poems, prose, and so many things and events can inspire us. The key is to act on that inspiration. Was it Thomas Edison who said that Success is ninety percent Inspiration and only ten percent perspiration? So many of you are so talented with your songs, guitars, violins, pianos, bands, dj'ing, orchestras, operas, compositions, etc., that I am constantly deriving inspiration from you by visiting your pages in the wee hours of the mornings when the mind is racing and the spirit is hungry. I can not tell you all how happy and fortunate I feel to have such an incredible and eclectic group of individuals to sample music from, to enjoy moments of solitude and reflection.

As a kid, I wanted to sing, because I felt a sense of excitement and joy by watching performers like Pandit Ravi Shankar, Zakir Hussain, Shiv Kumar Sharma, The Beatles, and so many enthrall their audiences into an amazing trance and frenzy. I really felt the power of performance and entertainment in music. I kept myself to my safe studio though -- the bathroom. Recently, Annie said that I should continue to sing and even get voice lessons. Well, that's a huge encouragement, coming from her, miss dulcet extraordinaire. Whether I will ever segue into crooning or not, only time will tell. For now, filmmaking, bathroom singing, and leaving singing messages on her machine are a great vocation for me! Someone did say though: never say never! The moral here is, whatever inspires you in life, pursue and hone it passionately.

Look at the inspiration this cellphone salesman tapped into when he was encouraged. He caused a sensation! For me, and I hope for you as well, the moral of the story here is that we must strive to perfect our passions, whatever they may be: singing, dancing, playing an instrument, or simply songwriting. These are elements of this wonderful universal language of humanity -- music. I don't envy you guys, I admire you all, for having this talent, because it is phenomenal. You can not only inspire me in my bathroom or living room, you can spread love, peace, harmony everywhere; you can unite people, unite nations, enhance culture, improve relations, cause healings, bond families and friends, create awareness and positive change and make our planet a better place to live and enjoy for now and the future. Ask yourselves, isn't it why you took to this activity? I mean, what is the reason you create music? Deep down, you know it already. What a responsible and powerful gift you guys possess. I salute you!

Love and best wishes,

your awed friend,

Anil
